FAQ-2
TEAM INFORMATION & TEAM REGISTRATION
Do I need to be an experienced dragon boat paddler to participate?
NO! You do not need to have experience to participate. Many participants have never picked up a paddle before their first team practice. Due to their size and design, dragon boats are very stable in the water, making them highly suitable for beginners.
How many people do we need to form a team and what are the roles?
You will need a minimum of 21 crew members to form a team, but you may have up to 25. From your crew you will designate a Team Captain and a Team Co-Captain. In each race, you will have one (1) drummer and 20 paddlers of whom at least 8 must be women. You may have up to four alternate paddlers on your team, but remember that in each race no fewer than 8 paddlers must be women. Crew members may be no younger than 16 (16 & 17 year old require parental signatures on the liability release waiver)
The drummer sits atop the bow on a seat and beats the team's stroke rhythm. This person should be of slight build but have a commanding presence and voice.
The Captain is responsible for organizing and communicating to the team information from the festival staff. He or she is also responsible for ensuring all liability waivers are submitted by the end of July .
The Co-Captain is a back-up for the Captain in the event he or she cannot be reached by the festival staff and so should be aware of the Captain's duties. The Co-Captain may also help organize logistics for the team: tent set-up, decoration, t-shirt design, race-day amenities, cheers, etc.
A dragon boat team also includes a steersman, but because this position requires significant skill and experience, the festival will provide one to your team for all practices and races.

If any team does not meet the registration requirements, the festival director will consult with the team captain. If the decision is made to remove a team from the race roster, the team's fees will be refunded.
