Purpose And Vision
In 2010, 27 teams supported by 1,500 spectators competed on a stretch of the Alabama River in Downtown Montgomery for the first annual Montgomery Dragonboat Race and Festival. In the three years since then, the Festival has grown to nearly 70 teams, drawing almost 10,000 spectators to the Riverfront, making the 2012 Festival the largest outdoor event in the city of Montgomery.
2013 will be even bigger, as we prepare to host the 4th annual Montgomery Dragonboat Festival, as well as Alabama’s first regional competition for club teams across the Southeast, the Southeast Dueling Dragon Classic. This SRDBA (Southeast Regional Dragonboat Association)-sanctioned event is coming to one of the region’s best Dragonboating venues here at the Montgomery Riverfront on June 8th.
The Montgomery Dragonboat Race and Festival is a 501(c)(3) that works to benefit two local and worthy nonprofit organizations, Bridge Builders Alabama
and Rebuilding Together Central Alabama
. The proceeds from our events go directly to building and maintaining the programs and services these organizations provide to the community.
Our goal is to support the missions of our beneficiaries while expanding the sport of Dragonboating both locally and in the state of Alabama.
